Motherhood Session~ Laura & Ava~ Lymington Family Photographer | Ann Owen Photography
This was an extra special session. I have photographed Laura several times now; as a family with her three children, branding sessions for her business, and now a very special motherhood session with just her and her eldest daughter, Ava. When we are a mother to more than one child it can be so hard to find the time and space to give each of them some special one on one time and this is what this session was all about. It was all about capturing the love between her and the one who made her a mother.
Here are some words from Laura herself, "Seasons, both inner and outer, seem to be passing me by more quickly than ever. There are many things in life that are made all the more obvious when you become a mother, but this is one of the most bittersweet of them all.
I know I’ve rolled my eyes in protest at those cliched words spoken: ‘blink and you’ll miss it.’ But it’s true, childhood is such a short season. I’ve often felt the pangs of guilt knowing how much I’ve missed, knowing that I haven’t cherished every moment.
This year has called so much into question for us all. Old beliefs have been torn out at their roots, leaving us struggling to figure out where we belong. It’s during these times that we learn the most about ourselves; we have a golden opportunity to hone our values, to decide what truly matters to us.
My children are my constant. And I theirs. Yet each of us is forever becoming. Making time to be alone with each of them is a balm which never fails to soothe when things begin to feel fraught between us. It isn't always easily done but it is so worth it, to have these stolen moments to get to know each other more deeply.
After almost a decade of motherhood I believe the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is this: to give myself, and in turn my children, the space to grow and the permission to change. We each shed many skins during a lifetime and the most gracious thing we can do for one another is to embrace each new layer fully, as it is revealed.
These photos with my eldest daughter will always hold a special place in my heart, capturing these final joyous days of summer seems to me to be the perfect reminder of the fleeting nature of each phase."
I loved that I had the opportunity to be a part of a very special experience for them. Having a photo session couldn't be a more perfect way to spend some one on one time with your children, not only will it be an unforgettable experience for them and you but you will also have created tangible memories that will last a lifetime and that really what it's all about.
