The beginning & the middle parts of this month may have been a bit of a let down but the end of this month has made up for it. The sun has been shining and we even managed to have our first mini family holiday after over 20 months of not going anywhere to Durdle Door which is one of my favourite places.
This past month I haven't been to the sea as much as previous months, we always seem to flip flop between the forest and the sea and this past month the grounding energies of the forest have called us more. Even so we have had some beautiful days by the sea and have created a lot of memories.
This was my first session of the year after coming out of lockdown and what an incredible session it was. Words can't express how good it feels to be able to work again and do what I love! I am so looking forward to more incredible sessions in the forest! I am also happy to announce that I am also booking at-home maternity & newborn sessions, I can't wait to hear from you and to help you create memories!
The sea has played such a big part in my life this past month. We've been coming here a lot lately and each time it feels like a completely new experience. I think that's what I love about our little spot, it's always changing, and it never looks or feels the same to me.
This month the sea has helped me tremendously. Its been one of those months where it seems we all need different things at different times and it's been such a balancing act trying to balance it all. But coming here to this little spot of ours has been such a healer.
I am so aware how lucky we are to be able to walk to our little beach and feel the sea air. We are almost a month into our third national lockdown and being able to come here on a regular basis has been so good for us on so many different levels.
Welcome to our Coast to Coast loop. We are a group of photographers from around the world, from timezones as far flung as Australia to Canada and in between, each with a different seascape. Coast to Coast aims to document our changing sea views and perspectives - both literal and philosophical - of what the sea means to us, month to month through the changing seasons.
Just towards the end of the second lockdown, I had my first 'Through the Window' session and it was so incredibly special. "Lockdown two wasn’t a surprise for me. I hoped that it wouldn’t happen, but it wasn’t as big of a shock as it was the first time. It did bring a feeling of sadness though as the hope of seeing my mother, grandmother and my sister and her family this year was pushed back yet again."
This was such a special session which happened way back in September when the beautiful Heather was still in bloom, the forest is looking so much different now! This was my first session with two friends who also happened to both be breastfeeding, and I really hope it isn't my last! It was all about sisterhood and celebrating where we are at in our motherhood journeys and it just genuinely filled me up with so much joy!
Welcome to ARTEFACT MOTHERHOOD - a project shared with other international female artists who are documenting our journeys as mothers and creating memories for our children through our photographs and words.
This feels like the beginning of reclaiming my body, after an emergency section and a planned one 18 months later. Both so different, one with traumatic and partial memories, the other gentle and considerate but still missing something. There is still a sense of disappointment in my own body for not being able to birth my babies as I'd hoped, creating a hole somewhere inside.
